I’m sure you heard at school that our body has five senses: touch, taste, smell, hearing and vision?
Well, it is now known that our body has at least eight!!
One that is closely tied with our emotions and how we are feeling is our Interoception.
Our Interoception is the information we get from inside our bodies. It is the information that tells us when we need to go to the toilet or that we are feeling hungry or tired. It is also the information that lets us know how we are feeling. It is the experience of different muscles feeling tight or relaxed, butterflies or knots in the stomach, heaviness or lightness feelings in the heart and so many more.
Next time you are feeling a big emotion, whether excited or sad, stop for a moment and have a think about what parts of your body are talking to you. Where is it that YOU feel the emotion?
