Tateum is a qualified Social Worker and Play Therapist.

Graduating in 2015 with a Bachelor in Social Work at Victoria University, she has also just completed her Masters of Child Play Therapy at Deakin University.

Tateum began working in the social work field in homelessness. Working in this field expanded Tateum’s skill-set and interest to work with families and children with a range of complexities, which subsequently led to a new role in family services. She continues to work with complex families and children at Melbourne City Mission.

Working holistically with children from 2-12 years of age and their families is Tateum’s passion.

Tateum is certified in Child Centred Play Therapy, Filial Therapy, and Learn to Play. Her main goal is to ultimately assist and support children to become the best versions of themselves, learning, developing, and growing in play therapy, or whichever modality it may be.

Calm in nature, Tateum enjoys the openness and freedom of expression for children in the play space, with that space becoming a safe, nurturing and judgement-free place where any child can feel a part of and be comfortable in. Tateum is empathetic and sensitive to every child and their individual needs. Her role as a Play Therapist is to build a therapeutic relationship to help facilitate change and growth for the child and/or family.

Tateum values each child and their counterparts such as parents, caregivers, and other support systems, and aims to work as openly and transparently as possible with each to ensure the best possible outcomes for the child. Her goal in CoRe Kids Therapy is ultimately wanting to strengthen the child’s skills and the family with the use of Play.

Achieving a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and a Masters in Child Play Therapy, Tateum’s skills are also supplemented by certifications in Learn-2-Play, Child-Centered Play Therapy, and Filial Therapy. CoRe Kids Therapy is fortunate to have Tateum’s extensive qualifications and deep knowledge within the practice.
