Sara McGarvey
Social Worker / Play Therapist
Sara is a social worker and play therapist originally from Ireland. Sara was supporting children and young people as a senior social worker in the UK before moving to Australia in 2019. Before CoRe Kids, Sara supervised teams supporting children with complex needs before deciding to become a play therapist.
When supporting children with their wellbeing, Sara takes the approach of working with the systems surrounding the child as a central approach. For example, working closely with family members, communities, schools and other services that may be involved to holistically support a child and their family.
Family relationships are in Sara’s view the foundation to supporting connection and a positive sense of identity for any child. Sara’s approach is to hold genuine space and hear each family’s story and their experience of what is happening for them.
As a person, Sara is empathetic, genuine and often described as “down to earth” which supports her in building trusting relationships with parents/carers and children.
Sara is an avid Op shopper on the weekends and loves quality time with close friends, as well as returning home when she can to visit family in Ireland and the UK.
