School Readiness Program – Sunshine Circles
School Readiness Program
- Sunshine Circles are adult-directed, structured play therapy-based groups
- Focus on the social and emotional development of children through building self-esteem and trust in others
- Great opportunity for children to learn and practice emotional regulation skills with others and experience success when trying new settings and challenges in preparation for school readiness
- Instead of talking about positive social behaviour, the group leaders and children DO positive social interaction. Gradually, positive messages from the groups become a part of the child’s internal sense of self
- Children embrace the three rules of Sunshine Circles… No Hurts, Stick Together and Have Fun!… and carry them with them throughout the day.
Upcoming Program
Dates: 10th October to 12th December 2024 (Thursdays)
Age Range: 5 to 6 years old
Where: CoRe Kids Therapy Clinic in Moorabbin
Each daily session will be a combination of a Sunshine Circle of playful, cooperative, and nurturing activities, then moving into an activity based on strengthening emotional literacy with group leaders reading books around key themes of friendship, independence and identifying emotions.
Children will have a chance to cement this learning through an accompanying creative task.
Children will attend an hour each day for the week – by giving children the opportunity to engage with the same peers each day they have the ability to form relationships and chance to practice rupture and repair with support from the group leaders.
