Parent Learn To Play
Parent Learn To Play
Have you noticed your child struggling, possibly not knowing how to play with other children, not able to regulate their emotions, or possibly getting lost amongst their peers when play becomes complicated?
Learn to Play Parent Programme is designed to assist you, as the parent/caregiver, to come alongside and help your child overcome these struggles.
Often to facilitate change for a child, and for that child to develop and learn, it is important they feel safe and can trust the person teaching them. This is the distinction for Learn to Play Parent Programme because it allows a trusted and safe person already in the child’s life to be that key change agent.
Learn to Play Parent Programme focuses on the importance you, as the parent/caregiver, are to your child. The influence you have and the relationship that you hold with your child is perfect to facilitate change and skill development. The programme aims to equip you to engage in play with your child that will build on your child’s ability to initiate spontaneous pretend play.
Pretend play is one of the highest forms of play a child can do because it requires complex and flexible thinking. As a child learns pretend play skills, they are able to better initiate play with others, understand and show empathy with their peers, understand logical sequences assisting the child to engage and stay in a play narrative without feeling lost.
How it works?
A play therapist will work on six key skills with you, as the parent/caregiver, to imitate and practice with your child. The six skills will help you engage with your child and understand your child’s pretend play ability. As you learn each skill, you will take it home and use it with your child as homework.
Who is it suitable for?
Learn to Play Parent Programme is suitable for any parents/caregivers who are seeking to support a child aged 12 months to 6 years who may find it difficult to initiate play, socialize with other children, or may have learning difficulties, developmental delay, ASD, down syndrome or any other neurological condition.
